Finance Minor, 18 Credits

The Finance minor offers students an introduction to principles of finance and its majorareas: financial management, investments, and financial markets. Accounting and Economicsmajors, in particular, would benefit from the additional exposure to finance. 

A grade of C or better is required for all courses in the minor.

Requirements

1. FNC 300/FIN 301 - Corporation Finance

2. FNC 410/FIN 420 - Introduction to Investments

3. Select 12 additional credits from 300- or 400-level FIN courses
or ACNTG 426/ACCTG 426

(ACNTG 426/ACCTG 426 is not required for a fiannce minor.)  

Advising and Course Selection 

Meet with a finance faculty member to find out more about the Finance minor and plan a program of courses that suits academic goals. The following courses are offered on a regular basis:

  • FNC 330/FIN 330 - Personal Financial Planning

  • FNC 400/FIN 405 - Problems in Financial Management

  • FNC 460/FIN 406 - Investment Analysis

  • FNC 470/FIN 407 - International Financial Management

  • FNC 480/FIN 481 - Advanced Financial Analysis

  • ACNTG 426/ACCTG 426 - Financial Statement Analysis

Other courses designed to meet specific needs can also be used to satisfy the requirements for a finance minor:

  • FNC 494/FIN 494 - Research Project

  • FNC 495/FIN 495 - Internship

  • FNC 496/FIN 496 - Independent Studies

  • FNC 497/FIN 497 - Special Topics

Declaring a FNC minor 

Fill out an Application for Admission to a Minor Program form. The form requires a signature from the student's advisor and the Program Chair (Dr. Greg Filbeck - REDC Bldg., Rm. 286). Before getting these signatures, we recommend students meet with a Finance faculty member to plan a course of study.
