SAM AND IRENE BLACK SCHOOL OF BUSINESS Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering Studies Curriculum (IBE)
The Capstone Experience The capstone experience is two 3- credit courses that provide an experience for the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering BS degree. The tools of strategic management and cross-functional collaboration will be introduced and serve as a background for the design, development, and implementation of a new product within an existing corporation. The course will integrate the principles of strategic analysis and management and the senior design project. In the first course (MGMT 475W), students will evaluate the corporate and industry environment, identify the place of the new product within the strategy of the firm and begin to evaluate the feasibility of the new product. In the second course (MGMT 476), students will complete the design, manufacture and determination of product feasibility and introduction plans. The experience will be sponsored by a firm that has an interest in the commercialization of a product idea. Student teams will present proposals to the firm at the end of the first semester, soliciting feedback. The full plan including viability and commercialization plans will be presented at the end of the second semester. Please note that MGMT 475W will only be offered in the fall semester and MGMT 476 will only be offered in the spring term. Students must complete the capstone experience in the same year, due to the design of the course.
