Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering Studies Curriculum (IBE)

   

Focus Modules

Module 1: Accounting and Finance (19 credits)

Students selecting this module will be well-prepared to function as plant or manufacturing accountants. Given the engineering and production courses, they will be able to contribute to the organization through a solid understanding of the manufacturing or service process and the cost allocation system used in a product or service environment.

ACCTG 305 (4) Financial Statement Analysis
ACCTG 340 (3) Cost Accounting
FIN 405 (3) Problems in Financial Management
Select three credits in ACCTG or FIN at the 400 level

Module 2: QUALITY CONTROL & SIX SIGMA (15credits)

Students with a focus area in Quality Control and Six Sigma will have a solid command of the tools and techniques of statistical analysis used in the assessment of quality and implementation of a quality program or Six Sigma initiative. They will be prepared to work in a manufacturing or service environment in the quality control function.

Select 12 credits (including at least 6 credits at the 400 level) from:
  STAT 461 (3) Analysis of Variance
  MATH 482 (3) Mathematical Methods of Operations Research
  STAT 460 (3) Intermediate Applied Statistics
  STAT 462 (3) Applied Regression Analysis
  STAT 464 (3) Applied Nonparametric Statistics

Module 3: OPERATIONS & SUPPLY CHAIN (15 credits)

Students selecting this module will be prepared to be production planners, transportation specialists, and purchasing agents. Graduates will be well prepared to be in these positions in technical firms.

SCM 460 (3) Purchasing & Material Management
Plus one of the following:
  ECON 485 (3) Econometric Techniques
  MKTG 485 (3) Business to Business Marketing

  MIS 336 (3) Database Management Systems

Module 4: TECHNICAL SALES (15 credits)

Students selecting this module will be prepared to be Business-to-business, industrial sales representatives, or technical sales personnel.

SCM 460 (3) Purchasing & Material Management
MKTG 410 (3) Personal Selling
Plus two of the following:
  MIS 304 (3) Introduction to ERP
  MKTG 440 (3) Services Marketing
  MKTG 485 (3) Business to Business Marketing
  SCM 455 (3) Logistics Systems Analysis & Design

Module 5: PRODUCT DESIGN & MANUFACTURE (16 credits)

Students who select this module will be well-prepared to participate in the product design function.
