SAM AND IRENE BLACK SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Career Paths for Management Information Systems Majors

Penn State Erie Management Information Systems graduates enjoy excellent placement rates and some of the highest starting salaries of any business major.

Many students begin as entry-level programmers in large businesses and advance to higher level systems analysis, design, and management positions. Others work as consultants to small businesses or start a business of their own. Business and computing skills also provide an excellent starting point for graduate work in many fields.

The average starting salary for two recent classes was $47,073, with a high salary of $62,000. As you can see from the detail at the following web site,
http://www.pserie.psu.edu/student/cdc/graduatesalaryinfo.htm, the MIS major has the highest average starting salary among all Business majors (except for one alumnus in Finance & International Business).

The U.S. Department of Labor projects these trends to continue as organizations rely more heavily on knowledge workers and strategic information systems.
