Astronomy Courses

The Astronomy courses currently offered at Penn State Behrend are listed below.

Astronomy 1: A conceptual introduction to astronomy using basic physics principles and elementary mathematics. Offered spring semesters. 3 credits. No prerequisites.

Astronomy 10: Condensed version of Astronomy 1. Offered fall and summer semesters. 2 credits. No prerequisites.

Astronomy 11: Introductory astronomy lab using telescopes and computers. Emphasis is on naked-eye and telescopic observing. Offered fall and summer semesters. 1 credit. Prerequisites: Astronomy1 or Astronomy 10.

Astronomy 291: Astronomy of the Solar System and other planetary systems using calculus-based physics. Offered Fall 2002. Next offering: Fall 2004. 3 credits. Prerequisites: Math 140 and Phys 211; Astronomy 001, 010, and 011 are helpful.

Astronomy 292: Astronomy of the distant universe, including stars, galaxies, and cosmology using calculus-based physics. Offered Fall 2000. Next offering Fall 2003. 3 credits. Prerequisites: Math 140 and Phys 211; Astronomy 001, 010, 011, and 291 are helpful.

Astronomy 293: Advanced astronomy laboratory using telescopes and computers. Offered Fall 2000. Next offering Fall 2003. 1 credit. Prerequisites: Math 140 and Physics 211; Astronomy 001, 010, 291, and 292 are helpful.

Astronomy 497: Special Topics (Cosmology) introduction to cosmology using calculus-based physics. Offered Spring 2002. Next Offering TBD. 3 credits. Prerequisites: Math 140 and Physics 211; Astronomy 291, 292, and 293 are helpful.
