According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for environmental scientists and hydrologists will grow 21 percent to 35 percent over the next decade. Job growth for geology positions is projected to be 10 percent to 20 percent.
In a 2000 survey, the Bureau found median salaries to be $44,180 for environmental scientists, $55,410 for hydrologists, and $56,230 for geologists.
The Bureau projects job growth for teachers at the secondary level will grow by 10 percent to 20 percent. The median salary for teachers in 2000 was $37,610 to $42,080.
