Behrend Lions Meet With Tommy Lasorda

Paul Benim, the first-year head coach of the Penn State Behrend baseball team, and the 1995-96 edition of the Behrend Lions completed their most successful spring training week in the history of the baseball program--winning six of seven games.

The blue and white had several outstanding performances that supported their impressive first week of the 1996 baseball season. Additionally, on Thursday, March 7, 1996, the team spent an hour and a half in Vero Beach, Florida, at Dodgertown with manager Tommy Lasorda. Lasorda, who entered his forty-seventh year with the Dodgers' organization, gave the Behrend Lions a spirited and inspirational speech about dreams, motivation and the importance of God and family. This special highlight was followed with a buffet luncheon in the Dodgers V.I.P. clubhouse for the team. The afternoon concluded with the team watching the Dodgers dismantle the Houston Astros 13-5, at Holman Stadium.
