Penn State Behrend Duo Sweeps Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards

After going 4-0 in conference play last week, two Behrend Lions were named to the AMCC performers of the week.  Senior David Koerbel
(Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic) would earn the pitcher of the week honors.  Junior shortstop, Josh Fyffe (Fredonia, PA/Sharpsville) would be named the player of the week.

The Behrend Lions would capture game one of a double header against Pitt-Greensburg behind the pitching of Koerbel.  Koerbel would pitch a complete game two hitter in route to his sixth win of the season. The shutout was Koerbel’s 24th win of his career making him the all time wins leader at Penn State Behrend. He is already the program's leader in strike-outs and complete games. Koerbel currently leads the AMCC in wins (6) and strikeouts (43).

As Koerbel was solid on the mound Fyffe was terrifying opposing pitchers while at the plate.  Fyffe went 9-for-12 (.750) on the week with four extra-base hits (double, triple, and two HR) and drove in nine runs as his squad swept Franciscan and Pitt-Greensburg.  He was also 3-for-4 on stolen base attempts, walked three times and struck out just once.  Fyffe would also play solid defense with three assists and three putouts while committing no errors.

The blue and white will be road warriors for the remainder of the regular season.  The Behrend Lions will play five of the final eight games on the road.  The blue and white start the road trip with Allegheny on April 14 and Thiel on April 16.  The Behrend Lions will be back at home on April 22 as they take on conference opponent Hilbert at 1:00 p.m.
