Behrend Lions Prove to be Tougher Than Altoona Lions

Behrend baseball (20-9-1) secured two key AMCC victories when they swept a doubleheader against rival Penn State Altoona on Saturday, April 22.  With the win, Behrend improves to 8-6 in the AMCC and currently holds the fourth seed as the conference tournament nears.

In game one, Behrend came back from a 2-0 deficit by stringing together runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to put Altoona away 4-2.  The blue and white overcame four errors that had led to an early Altoona lead.  Shane Scott (Stoneboro/Lakeview) went 2-for-3 at the plate and also hit in a run and scored another.  David Koerbel (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) logged a complete game on his way to the victory.

Behrend jumped out 2-0 early in game two, before Altoona tied the game in the top of the fifth.  The blue and white secured the sweep when Brent Sullivan (Wellsboro/Wellsboro) hit an RBI single that scored Tim Campbell (Erie/Fort LeBoeuf) and gave Behrend the win, 3-2.  Sullivan went 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBIs.  Chris McCartney (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) pitched five plus innings, giving up one earned run on six hits.

Behrend baseball will be in action again on Sunday, April 23 when they host the Washington and Jefferson Presidents at 2:00 p.m.
