Behrend Lions Drop Two Against Allegheny Gators

The Penn State Behrend baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Thursday to the visiting Allegheny Gators.  Behrend (22-12-1) fell in game one by a 4-1 score and in game two 9-5.

In the first game, the blue and white could not get it going at the plate as they managed just four hits against the Gator pitching staff.  For Behrend, junior pitcher Eric Nachreiner (Pittsburgh/North Hills) picked up the loss despite giving up just two runs while pitching into the sixth inning.  The lone run for the Behrend Lions came in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Joe Breiter (Finleyville/Ringgold) came in the game as a pinch runner and eventually scored on an Allegheny error.

In game two, Allegheny (14-18) used two big innings at the plate to take and expand the lead.  The Gators scored four runs in the top of the second inning, but Behrend would answer getting two runs back in the second and one more in the third to pull within 4-3.  Allegheny would tack on five more runs in the fourth inning for a 9-3 advantage.  Behrend managed a rally in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs, but Allegheny's Drew Scibetta would get out of a bases-loaded jam to close out the game.  In game two Behrend senior Eddie George (South Park/South Park) had two hits, one RBI, and scored a run while freshman pitcher Mike Leo (Harmony/Central Catholic) came on in relief to record six strikeouts.

Behrend concludes AMCC regular season play on Saturday, April 29 when they travel to conference foe Hilbert to battle the Hawks in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
