Behrend's Smith Named AMCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Behrend pitcher Ryan Smith (Franklin/Franklin) was named AMCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week on March 19.  He had an outstanding spring trip in Port St. Lucie, Florida on March 11-16, where the blue and white played nine games to start the season.

Smith helped the Behrend Lions with two saves and one win on the mound.  In 7.1 innings, the sophomore allowed only four hits, no runs, three walks and four strike outs.

As a freshman, Smith ended the year with a record of 4-4 and an ERA of 2.98.  He also was second in the AMCC in saves last year with six and in appearances to the mound with 23, which is also a school record.

The blue and white finished 8-1 in Florida, gaining quality wins over some tough opponents to start the season.  The team will be looking to improve over last year's record of 28-17-1 and third place finish in the conference.  This season's coaches' poll has the Behrend Lions picked to finish third in the conference.  Their first conference game is scheduled for March 24 at Frostburg.
