Behrend Lions Sweep Home Doubleheader With Mt. Aloysius

The Penn State Behrend baseball team swept a home doubleheader by counts of 2-1 and 3-2 against AMCC opponent Mt. Aloysius on Saturday, March 31 at the Behrend diamond.  The blue and white improves to 11-4 overall and even their conference mark to 3-3 with the wins.

In game one Behrend jumped out to a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first, lead off hitter Brian Hart (Valencia/Mars) reached base and was eventually driven in by Joe Breiter (Finleyville/Ringgold).  In the bottom of the fourth inning, Behrend would add another run when Breiter scored on a wild pitch.  In the top of the seventh, Mt. Aloysius loaded the bases and got on the scoreboard when David Koerbel (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) walked a Mt. Aloysius batter with the bases loaded.  Koerbel would get out of the jam and pick up the win for Behrend earning a complete game victory to move to 2-1.

Both teams threatened early in game two.  Behrend put two on in the top of the first but was shutdown with a double play.  After leaving two on in the bottom of the first, the Mounties put a run on the board in the second with a safety squeeze.  The blue and white tied the game up in the third, when Dustin Dubensky (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) soared a double to the wall and later scored.  Behrend would put two more runs on the board in the third, as both Ryan Liddle (DuBois/DuBois) and Brian Hart crossed the plate.  Mt. Aloysius would tack one more on late but it would not be enough as Behrend claimed a 3-2 victory to sweep the series as Behrend's Ben Cain (Venetia/Peters Township) picked up his first save of 2007.

Baseball is next in action on Tuesday, April 3 on the road against Pitt-Bradford in an AMCC doubleheader to start at 1:00 p.m.
