Behrend Baseball Splits With Bobcats on the Behrend Diamond
The Bobcats struck early in game one, going up 2-0 when Greensburg’s first two hitters both got on with singles and eventually scored. A Behrend error in the third turned a lead off single into a three-base hit but the runner would later be gunned out at home on a nice throw from third. Behrend charged back in the bottom half of the third when Josh Fyffe (Fredonia/Sharpsville) drove in two with a single back up the middle to tie the game. Gabe Stephenson (State College/State College) then blasted a double to the left field wall that would drive in Fyffe to take a 3-2 lead. An RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Greensburg in the fourth allowed them to reclaim the lead, 4-3. Behrend would force another lead change in the bottom half of that inning as Fyffe would come up big once again with a shot up the middle that drove in two, bringing the count to 5-4. The rest of the game would remain scoreless as Behrend came from behind two different times to claim game one. Game two opened with three scoreless innings before the Bobcats again struck first when Matt Stanziano reached on a single and would later score on a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield. Behrend would capitalize off two Greensburg errors in the bottom half of the inning and get on the board when Gabe Stephenson (State College/State College) crossed home plate. More Greensburg scoring would come in the top of the fifth of two wild pitches that allowed Nate Hissem to score. Stanziano would go on to single home another run, putting the Bobcats up 3-1. Greensburg tacked on two more in the sixth, putting the game out of reach at 5-1. The blue and white managed just five hits in game two, with two of those coming by Stephenson, who went 2 for 3 with a run. Behrend is scheduled to host Case Western on Sunday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. From there the men will travel to Thiel on April 17 for a 1:00 p.m. game. |
