Behrend Pitcher David Koerbel AMCC Pitcher of the Week

Behrend pitcher David Koerbel (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) has been named the conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 30.  Last season's Co-Newcomer of the Year put his experience to work on the mound this past week, picking up a save and a win to help the Behrend Lions end the season strong with a 7-1 performance last week.

Koerbel held the line against a scrappy Hilbert squad, allowing 1 hit in an inning and a third of work, to preserve the victory. He struck out four of the five Hilbert batters he faced.  Koerbel then went the distance in a shutout victrory over Penn State Altoona, allowing just three hits spread out over seven innings.  Koerbel leads the Behrend Lions in innings pitched (45.1), complete games (4), and strike outs (45).  His 45 strikeouts is second best in the conference.

Behrend swept the awards this week, with teammate Josh Fyffe (Fredonia/Sharpsville) taking the Hitter of the Week.  Behrend baseball will close out the regular season this week with two home games.  They face Allegheny on Tuesday, May 1 in a single game at 5:00 p.m. and then host a doubleheader on May 3 at 1:00 p.m. against Bethany.
