Penn State Behrend Baseball Falls 10-6 to W&J
Presidents
The Penn State Behrend Lions hosted the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at
the Behrend baseball field on Tuesday, April 29. The blue and white
fell 10-6 in the nine inning game.
In the top of the third W&J broke open a scoreless game by
putting up five runs, capitalizing off four hits and a pair of Behrend
errors.
In the bottom of the fourth the blue and white closed the gap with two
runs. Adam Martin (Rochester/Rochester) scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach
Sullivan (Oil City/Oil City) and Geoff Lang (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny)
scored from second on a RBI single from Tom Pasinski (West Mifflin/West
Mifflin).
The Presidents responded right away as they loaded the bases with no outs in
the top of the fifth. W&J eventually got three runners across the plate
to take an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Pasinski, Jason Bartlett
(Erie/Iroquois), and Ryan Liddle (St. Marys/St. Marys) all got aboard to
load the bases with no outs. Pasinski and Bartlett were driven in to bring
the score to 8-4 before W&J got a double-play to get out of the inning.
The Presidents tacked on another run to go up 9-4 and the game headed to the
bottom of the eighth with the Behrend Lions down to their last six outs.
Lang and Joe Breiter (Finleyville/Ringgold) reached base before Bartlett
came to the plate and smashed one to left field. Bartlett’s 2-RBI double
scored both runners to make the score 9-6 heading into the ninth inning. In
the top of the ninth W&J scored with two-outs to push the score to 10-6.
The blue and white were unable to rally in the ninth and saw their four-game
win streak come to an end.
Behrend (28-9) will play again on Wednesday, April 30 at Fredonia. The
doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
