Sarver & Schultheis Tabbed AMCC Athlete of the Week

Tim Schultheis (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe) and Jessica Sarver (Freeport/Freeport) both turned in remarkable finishes for the men and women's cross country teams this past Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.  This is the second time that both sophomores have been named AMCC athlete of the week.

Jessica Sarver led the Behrend women's team to a fifth-place finish out of the 13 teams that competed.  She finished tenth individually of the 116 competitors with a time of 19:20 and ran the fastest time of any AMCC runner to cross the line.

"Jessica had a fantastic drop in time at CMU and beat several women who had finished ahead of her in previous races. With the AMCC championship coming up soon, it will be interesting to see her and teammate Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell) battle it out for the individual title," says head coach Dave Cooper, who is excited about the success of both teams. "Tim continues to lead the men's team and gets closer to breaking the 28-minute barrier. He'll be among the top of the field at the AMCC tournament."

Tim Schultheis was the Behrend Lions top finisher at the invitational.  He came in 25 of 133 runners in a time of 28:06 and led his team to a sixth place finish out of the 11 teams.

Behrend competes next in their last regular-season race at the Robert Wesleyan Invitational on October 19, before hosting the AMCC championship on November 2.
