Behrend Lions Handle Penn State Altoona for Third Straight Win 

The Behrend men's basketball team rolled to its third straight win with a 77-61 victory over visiting Penn State Altoona on Saturday in the Junker Center.  Behrend has now won 14 of 15 against Altoona, and improves its season mark to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the AMCC.

The first half saw back and forth action as neither team could pull away.  The largest lead was Behrend by five at 20-15.  Each team connected on over 50% from the floor and both teams were 4-for-9 from long distance.  Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township) was 3-for-3 from long range and led Behrend with 10 points at the break.  Colin Geiger and Curtis Geiger each had 11 for Altoona in the first 20 minutes. 

Behrend continued its sharp shooting in the second half connecting on 61% (14-of-23) from the floor, while holding Penn State Altoona to 45% shooting.  The Behrend Lions led 42-39 with just over 15 minutes to play and then went on a 9-0 run over the next five minutes to pull away.  Behrend led by at least eight points the rest of the way and cruised to the win to improve to 7-0 at home this season.

Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa) had 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Buczynski moved to third place on the Behrend career scoring list, passing Byron Thorne's 1,386 point total.  Buczynski now has 1,402 points for his career and is chasing Rick Demski's total of 1,466 points and scoring leader James Curren's 1,726 point total.

Kovac finished the game with 15 points and four assists.  Drew Seker (Ellicot City, MD/Centennial) also reached double figures with 12 points in the win, while Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) chipped in eight points and three assists.


Curtis Geiger finished with 18 points to lead Penn State Altoona.


Next up for the blue and white is a road trip to Medaille on January 16.  Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
