Behrend Lions Ranked Number-One in Division
III for Scoring Defense Behrend has captured four straight wins, while limiting the opposition to fewer than 60 points a game. According to the official NCAA website for the week of February 3, the Behrend Lions are holding their opponents on the season to an impressive 54.3 points per game. “Defense has always been a staple of our program," said assistant coach Justin Jennings, who was a member of the 2004 Behrend team who won the defensive scoring title. "We take pride in locking people up on defense and that has a lot to do with our continued success in this program.” The blue and white have started out with a record of 16-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play. They sit atop the AMCC tied for first with rival Lake Erie College. A year ago, Behrend finished second in the conference tournament with a heartbreaking one-point loss to Lake Erie. Behrend's goal is to host the AMCC conference tournament and in order to do so they must win the regular-season title. Behrend will be in action again this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. when they host the Medaille Mavericks in the Junker Center. Medaille enters having won six of its last seven AMCC games and stand at 12-9 overall and 7-7 in AMCC play. Then on Saturday, the La Roche Redhawks (10-11, 7-7) come to town for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off. |
