Penn State Behrend Men's Basketball Stops Medaille 71-61

The Behrend Lions men's basketball team stopped the Medaille Mavericks 71-61 Wednesday night in the Junker Center to remain undefeated at home on the season (11-0).

Behrend (18-4, 12-3), playing in front of an energized 361 fans, traded baskets early with the Mavericks and trailed 9-8 at the 14:18 mark.

The blue and white would rally with a 34-16 run to close out the half with a 42-25 lead behind the hot shooting of senior center Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) who nailed seven of nine from the field for a fourteen point first half performance. The Behrend sharpshooters knocked down 19-of-31 from the floor (61%) including three-of-six from three-point territory while Tom Newman (Girard/Northwestern) and Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) chipped in eight points apiece.

Medaille (12-10, 7-8) fought back in the second half, chipping away at the lead.  The Mavericks managed to close the gap to five 51-46 with just over nine minutes to play, but could get no closer as Behrend immediately responded with an 11-0 run of its own.

Buczynski led all scorer's with 24 points and also grabbed nine boards.  Newman finished with 14 points and Kaiser had 11.  Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) finished with nine points on 4-of-8 shots from the floor.

Behrend plays its next two games at home.  Next for the blue and white is a Saturday, February 16 game against the La Roche Redhawks (10-11, 7-7) set to tip-off at 8:00 p.m. Then on Wednesday, February 20, the Lake Erie Storm (15-6, 11-3) comes into the Junker for a game that could decide the AMCC regular-season title.
