Men Upend Top-Seeded Lake Erie, Look Ahead to AMCC Playoffs
The
men's basketball team heads into the AMCC playoffs full of confidence after
beating the top-seeded Lake Erie Storm Saturday, February 18, 62-39 in the
Junker Center.
With the win the men close out their regular-season at 19-6, 12-6 in the conference.
The game was back and forth for the first six minutes of play before Dan Zeigler (Johnsonburg/Johnsonburg) hit a lay-up that started a 10-0 run for the blue and white. Zeigler finished the half with six points and six boards.
In the second half Behrend continued play solid on both sides of the ball, opening their lead up to 23 at one point. Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) turned it on in the second, finishing with a game-high 13 points. David Gahan (Erie/East) netted 10 points to go along with his eight rebounds and two blocks.
Lake Erie was led by Chad Hunt, who was the only player for the Storm in double figures with 10 points and four boards.
Behrend will head into the AMCC tournament as the number-three seed, and will host number six Frostburg State on Tuesday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. where the Behrend Lions are an impressive 12-1 at home.
