Q & A With Behrend Men's Basketball Coach Dave Niland

1. WHAT IS YOUR GENERAL THOUGHT ON HOW THE SEASON HAS STARTED AND WHERE YOUR TEAM STANDS RIGHT NOW?

We have had a decent start record wise from our team.  The team has given the coaching staff great effort everyday at practice.  We need to be more consistent with our play as we get deeper into conference play, however, we like how our team is shaping up.

2. WHO IS PERFORMING WELL FOR THE TEAM?

The great thing about our team is that a different player has stepped up for us each night.  Our frontcourt play has been great with the help of Kevin Buczynski, Tom Newman,  Dan Zeigler, David Gahan, and Adam Potter all performing well.  Guards Justin Kovac, Drew Seker and Doug Straub have been solid for us in the backcourt.

3. HAS ANYBODY REALLY SURPRISED YOU WITH WHAT THEY BROUGHT BACK FROM THE OFFSEASON/PRESEASON?

Tom Newman and Dan Zeigler really worked hard this off season. They have both made drastic improvements in their game and they are two of the main reasons we are 4-0 in the league.

4. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE HEADING INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON AFTER THE SEMESTER ENDS?

For us to be where we want to be at the end of the season we are going to have to find more ways to score.  Although we have been solid on defense we need to be better at the end of games locking people down.

5. WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTATION FOR THE END OF THE SEASON AND POSTSEASON?

We expect our team to be able to play different ways as the season goes along.  With our depth we feel we can throw different match-ups at teams and be very dangerous.  If we want to play into the post season, we are going to have to be able to play this way.
