Blue and White Upended 59-58 in 2007 AMCC Championship Game

Penn State Behrend men's basketball team held the lead against Lake Erie for just shy of 40 minutes on Saturday afternoon. However, Storm senior Rob Williams nailed a 22 foot three-pointer with 4.7 seconds remaining to give LEC the lead and helped them snag the AMCC's birth in the NCAA Tournament. Tom Newman's (Girard/Northwestern) jumper as time expired fell short for Behrend who falls to 19-7 and awaits word on an Eastern College Athletic Tournament bid on Monday.

The men were victorious over Pitt-Bradford on Friday night by a count of 63-39 to advance to Saturday's title game. Kevin  Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) scored a game-high 21 points and worked for 7 rebounds. Also in double figures was freshman guard Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township) with an even dozen and Adam Potter (Pittsburgh/Mt. Lebanon) chipped in seven points and nine board in the hard fought loss.

Lake Erie, ranked #1 in the Great Lakes Region, improves to 25-2 overall. They were led by Williams and Derrick Thornton with 19 points apiece.

Behrend has earned postseason bids in five of the past six seasons and has a strong chance of advancing to the ECAC Tournament. Behrend's team defense ranks atop the AMCC.  The men allow only 58.5 points a game.  They also hold teams to a dismal .397 shooting from the field, another league best.  Leading the scoring attack this season has been Buczynski, his 18.1 points and 7.0 boards a game are fifth and third best in the conference respectively.  Kovac will be relied on to manage the game from the point.  He can score when needed (7.0 ppg) and his assist/turnover ratio is third best in the league at 1.89.
