Behrend Lions Upended by Frostburg State 2-1 in AMCC Playoffs

For the second consecutive season the Frostburg State Bobcats have ended the Behrend Lions season in the AMCC first-round after a 2-1 win at the Behrend Fields. Behrend was 9-1 this season at home entering the contest.

Behrend took a 1-0 advantage into half-time after senior Justin Reese (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) scored on a penalty kick. FSU tied the contest at 78:43 mark on Trevor Havey's unassisted goal and won the game on a late goal by Matt Moffa with only 46 seconds remaining in the contest.

Behrend outshot FSU 17-13 and out cornered them 4-3. Behrend's Matt Zirnsak (Butler/Butler) made seven saves--six in the second half while the Bobcats Derek Richardson made three for the game.

Earlier this season the Behrend Lions defeated the Bobcats 1-0. Both teams have won three conference titles and together have combined to win six of the eight total AMCC Championships.

Frostburg State will travel this Wednesday to Buffalo to play the top-seeded Medaille Mavericks at 2:00 p.m.  The winner will advance to 2005 AMCC championship match at the top remaining seed on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. The league champions will then move on the the NCAA Division III Tournament.
