Penn State Behrend Honors 12 on National Student-Athlete Day

On April 6 Penn State Behrend honored 12 of its standout team members on National Student-Athlete Day.  National Student-Athletes Day is America's day to recognize the academic and community service achievements of student-athletes.

Those honored for the 2007-2008 school year include: baseball's Andrew Chrobak, men's basketball's
Ben Gasbarre (DuBois/DuBois Central Catholic, Doug Straub (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic), Justin Kovac (Venetia/Peters Township), Thomas Newman (Girard/Northwestern), and Dan Zeigler (Johnsonburg/Johnsonburg); women's basketball's Anne Priester (Wattsburg/Seneca) and Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep); women's swimming's Sara Breese (West Springfield/Northwestern); women's soccer's Brittany Barbato (State College/State College); men's tennis player Brad Nagel (West Alexander/McGuffey); and women's water polo player Jenna Zeyfang (Erie/Erie First Academy).

NSA Day members earned 3.0 or higher GPAs and served the community in or around Penn State Behrend.  Community service projects these student-athletes participated in included Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, TOPPS Soccer, Make-A-Wish, Second Harvest Food Bank, clothing donations, tutoring, volunteering at the Barber Institute, volunteer tennis coaching for youth players, and the Lambda Sigma Society service organization. 

NSA was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and North Eastern University’s Sports in Society.  It is co-sponsored by the NCAA & the National Federation of State High School Associations.
