Koman No-Hits La Roche in Key AMCC Doubleheader Sweep

Freshman sensation Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) threw a no-hitter in a thrilling 1-0 victory in game one of Monday's doubleheader against AMCC rival La Roche.  Koman struck out 16 on her way to the Behrend record books, the first no-hitter since May of 2005 and just the second since 1996.  Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) went 2 for 4 and provided the only run of the game.

"She had great stuff all game, her pitches were really working.  Her confidence was high and continued to rise as the game progressed," said head coach Stacy Pondo.  "She really stepped up in a key conference game, giving us a tight win in a defensive battle."

Behrend also took game two of the doubleheader, 5-2.  Whitby had another strong performance at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a homer .  Freshman Rachel Lawrence also stepped up big with the bat, going 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored.  With the sweep, Behrend improves to 13-3 and starts off 2-0 in a competitive AMCC conference.

Behrend softball is in action again on Wednesday, March 29 when they host the Thiel Tomcats in game one of a four-game home stand.
