Behrend Softball Rolls Over Thiel in Doubleheader

Behrend rolled to victories in both games of a double header against visiting Thiel on Wednesday.  In game one the Behrend Lions shutout the Tomcats by a 8-0 score.  Game two was equally as impressive as Behrend (15-3) cruised to a 19-6 victory.

In the first game, a
close 1-0 game was blown open in the bottom of the fourth inning when the blue and white scored six runs.  Junior Kristin Macha (Export/Franklin Regional) and freshman Rachelle Lawrence (Warren Center/Northeast Bradford) each had three hits with Macha also collecting four RBIs.  Freshman pitcher Julie Koman  earned the win, her seventh on the season.

Game two saw Kelly Hougton (Jamestown/Jamestown) and Macha each go 3-4 at the plate with Macha knocking in four runs and Houghton collecting three RBIs.  Behrend again used a big inning to open up the game as they scored 15 runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Sophomore Lauren Lubic (Bridgeville/South Fayette), freshman Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone), and freshman Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) each scored three runs in the game two victory over Thiel (1-17). 

Behrend softball is in action again on Saturday, April 1 when they host AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg for a double header at 1:00 p.m.
