Behrend Sweeps Medaille in AMCC Softball Doubleheader

The Behrend Lions pushed their record to 22-4 and 9-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play as they defeated the visiting Medaille Mavericks 8-0 and 11-7 in a doubleheader on Wednesday.  The blue and white improved to 8-0 at home and have now won five straight games.

In game one freshmen Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) went 3-for-4 and scored three runs while freshman Lindsay Baughman (Warren/Warren) was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.  Freshman Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) pitched six shutout innings and struck out nine to pick up her eleventh win on the season.

In game two, Behrend got home runs from both Whitby and freshman Rachelle Lawrence (Warren Center/Northeast Bradford) as they built a 10-2 lead.  Medaille (13-17, 4-8) would respond with five more runs but ran out of time as the game was called in the sixth inning due to thunderstorms.  Whitby and Lawrence each collected three RBIs while junior Kristin Macha (Export/Franklin) went 3-for-4.  Behrend had 15 hits in the game and junior pitcher Sandy Jaussi (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) got the win.

Behrend is back in action on Saturday, April 15 when they host a doubleheader against AMCC opponent Mt. Aloysius with an early start time of 10:00 a.m.
