Softball Ranked Nationally In Several Statistical Categories

The Behrend softball team (29-7, 14-2) has several players ranked nationally in the latest NCAA statistics, which have been updated to include games through April 23.

Freshman outfielder Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) appears several times among the national leaders.  Whitby is currently ranked fifth in the nation in runs per game (1.33).  She also comes in at #20 in slugging percentage (.838), #26 in triples per game (.17), and #32 in batting average (.475).

Freshmen pitcher Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) is ranked tenth in the nation in two categories.  She holds that spot in both earned run average (0.64) and strikeouts per seven innings (11.1).

Also making the list for the Behrend Lions were junior infielder Kristin Macha at #37 in the nation in batting average (.467) and freshmen shortstop Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) at #44 in triples per game (0.15).

As a team the blue and white are ranked at #11 in triples per game (.53) and at #30 in earned run average (1.50).

Behrend softball can clinch the #1 seed for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships if they can sweep the Lake Erie Storm in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader today, April 26, at Lake Erie.
