Behrend Softball Team Continues to Improve, Moves to 5-1 in AMCC

In 2003 the Penn State Behrend softball team finished 12-22 on the year and 4-8 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), which was good enough for fifth in the league.  This season the team has two new coaches and numerous new faces, and through only half of its league games it has surpassed its AMCC win total of a year ago.  At 5-1 the Behrend Lions currently sit atop the conference.

The team's overall record is just 5-15, but this is not indicative of the team's performance.  Nine of the team's 20 games have been decided by one run, and Behrend has come out on the losing end in eight of those nine games.  Leads have been lost, and comebacks have fallen just short, but with 10 of 15 players being freshmen and sophomores, the passing of every game brings with it experience.  First-year head coach Stacy Pondo is excited about the team's progress stating, "Our players are really starting to come together as a team, and as long as we continue to strive for team rather than individual achievements we should continue to win games."

The Behrend Lions will ride a three-game winning streak into Westminster on April 7 before traveling to Pitt-Bradford on April 8.  Both dates are scheduled as 3:00 p.m. double-headers.
