Behrend Lions Earn Six-Seed & Travel to La Roche for AMCCs The Behrend Lions softball team is headed to La Roche for the AMCC tournament the weekend of May 6-8. This marks the team's first trip to the tournament in five years. The blue and white secured the sixth spot after earning wins in two must-have games against Penn State Altoona at home, 3-1 and 6-2. Junior Sandy Jaussi (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) pitched a complete game in game one of the double-header, striking out 11, walking one and allowing one run with four hits. The games closed out regular season conference play for the teams and put Behrend at 9-9 in conference play, 9-23 overall. La Roche secured hosting rights and a first round bye as the number one seed in the conference. Pitt-Bradford also received a first round bye as the second seeded team. On Friday, there will be single elimination games between #6 Behrend vs. #3 Medaille and #5 Hilbert vs. #4 Frostburg State. The winners will then go on to double elimination games, starting later in the day. The AMCC champions will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Sophomore Kristen Macha (Franklin/Export) is ranked 36 in the nation for batting average at .457. In the AMCC league, she is fifth in batting average, second in hits with 48 and third in doubles with 11. Macha leads her team in batting average, RBIs, hits, and runs. Sophomore Loriel Herist (Tyrone/ Warriors Mark) is also nationally ranked, coming in at 23 for triples per game. She has five triples on the year. |
