Behrend Softball Splits Pair of Games to Open AMCC Tournament

The Penn State Behrend softball team began AMCC Tournament play on Friday, May 2 at Hilbert College.  The blue and white opened the conference championship tournament by defeating Pitt-Greensburg in the first game before losing a close contest to Lake Erie later in the day.

In the first game the #3 seed Behrend Lions rallied from a big 8-0 deficit in the fourth inning, coming all the way back to eventually win by a score of 15-8 over the # 6 seed Bobcats.  Behrend next faced the #2 seed Lake Erie Storm in the second game of the day for Behrend.  The Storm had earned a bye into the second round of games with a second-place regular season finish.  The Behrend Lions battled back after trailing 6-3, but fell just short against the Storm, losing 8-7.

The blue and white continue play in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday.  Behrend (28-12) will challenge the #4 seed Pitt-Bradford Panthers at 9:00 a.m.  The Panthers were defeated 9-2 in their only game on Friday 9-2 by the #5 seed Frostburg State Bobcats.
