Behrend Men and Women Fall to Edinboro in the First Meet of 2009
A
day after the Behrend Lions returned from winter training in Largo,
Florida the blue and white took on the Edinboro Fighting Scots in
the Junker Center pool. This is the first time the Behrend Lions
entered the Junker Center pool in 2009.
On the men's side, the Behrend Lions lost a close meet by the score
of 102-118. The men started off strong in the 200 yard medley relay
as the team of Tom Weir (Rochester/Freedom), Dane Dombrosky
(Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant), Ben Strunk (Cogan
Station/Williamsport), and Steve Zomcik (Kersey/St. Marys) took
first place. Another win for the blue and white came in the men's 50
yard freestyle where Zomcik and Weir finished one and two
respectively. Weir would add another win in the 100 yard backstroke
while Dombrosky would take the 100 yard butterfly. The Behrend
women would fall to the Lady Scots 68-115. Katie VanEpps
(Pleasantville/Titusville) swam a strong 500 yard freestyle to edge
out teammate Julie Cook (Warren/Warren). The loss drops the
Behrend Lions to 3-3 on the year.
The Behrend Lions
will be on the road for their next two meets. They will make the trip
across town to take on the Gannon Golden Knights on January 16th starting at
5:00 p.m. They will then travel to conference foe Penn State Altoona
on the 17th. That meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. The blue and
white will be back in the Junker Center pool on January 24th as they take on
Washington and Jefferson. The meet will be televised in the Erie area
on Image Sports Network.
