11-29-01 Behrend To Compete in ECAC Championships The Penn State Behrend swimming and diving
team will travel to Gloucester County, NJ on Friday, November 30 to
compete in the 2001 ECAC Division III Championships at Stevens
Institute of Technology. "This is an excellent achievement for a
second-year team," said head coach Josh Heynes. "We are
excited to have thirteen swimmers qualify. This is an
opportunity for our swimmers and divers to compete against top
Division III teams." The women's team qualified four swimmers
including Tara Braden (Erie/Fairview), Samantha Cibula
(Bradford/Bradford), Hollie Stash (North Huntingdon/Norwin), and
Christine Williams (Seltzer/Pottsville). Braden and Cibula will
compete in the freestyle and breaststroke events. Williams will
participate in the freestyle events and individual medley with Stash
competing in the freestyle events. The men's team qualified nine swimmers including Ben Atkins (Pleasantville /Titusville), Lucas Dushac (Indiana/Indiana), Alex Fertelmes (Cabot/Knoch), Jon Harding (Tunkhannock /Wyoming Seminary), Justin Lucas (Houston, TX/Cypress-Falls), Casey Doody (Scarborough, ME/Cape Elizabeth), Eric Phillips (Monroeville/Gateway), Tom Vignolini (Fombell/Riverside), and Robb Christensen (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili). Atkins and Lucas will compete in the freestyle events. Dushac is competing in the breaststroke events and individual medleys. Harding is participating in the butterfly and freestyle events with Fertelmes competing in the backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. Phillips is competing in three events including the breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. Doody will compete in the backstroke and freestyle events. Vignolini is the lone diver competing on the one-meter and three-meter boards, and Christensen is competing in the freestyle sprinting events. The men and women's swimming team will continue their season on Saturday, January 12, when they host Alfred University at 1:00 p.m. |
