Behrend Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Host Mt. Union


The Behrend men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted the Mt. Union Purple Raiders on Friday, January 13.  Mt. Union was victorious in both men's and women's competition.  The men fell 56-80 while the women were defeated 60-86.  

The Behrend men and women combined to win nine of the 26 events.  Cyndi Morales (Mexico City, Mexico/Universidad del Valle de Mexico) took two first-place finishes, with a 11:43.19 in the women's 1000-yard freestyle and a time of 5:49.88 in the 500-yard freestyle.  Missy Pilewski (Cranesville/Villa Maria) also took two event, winning both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard freestyle events.

On the men's side, Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry) won a team-high three events.  Fairchild finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.30, the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.43, and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.05.  Men's diver Alex Nieto (Lima, Peru/Franklin Delano Roosevelt) placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions, good enough for 18 points for the men.

The swimmers and divers are up again on Saturday, January 14, when they travel to Edinboro for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
