Pilewski Set To Compete at ECAC Championships
Sophomore swimmer Missy Pilewski (Villa Maria Academy/Cranesville) has qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Swimming and Diving Championships. Competing in her first ever post season event, Pilewski proudly enters the competition as only the second female swimmer in Behrend Lions history to ever capture this achievement. Pilewski earned the second place distinction in the 100 yard breaststroke at the Grove City Invitational on February 9-11. She broke her career best and the Behrend 100 yard breaststroke record swimming a 1:09.21. Coach Jen Wallace commented on Pilewski’s successful feat with saying, “I am very excited to see what Missy can accomplish at the next level of competition. I believe she has the potential to place in the top 16.” Pilewski’s Grove City time set her as number 18 of 23 among the 100 yard breaststroke competitors in the ECAC Championships. Wallace said “Missy will be competing mainly against Division I athletes. It should prove to be a very exhilarating race.” Competing against Penn State Behrend’s lone swimmer will be athletes from Columbia, Harvard, Yale, and other universities. The championships, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh, open on February 23 with women’s 3 meter diving and ends on the 26 with event 40, the men’s 400 yard freestyle relay.
