Swimming and Diving Kicks Off Home Schedule Against Buffalo State

Penn State Behrend swimming and diving dropped their first home meet of the season in the Junker Center Pool on Friday, November 3, to the Buffalo State Bengals.  The men were defeated by a final score of 97.5-135.5 while the women fell 89-138.  This was both teams first loss of the season after a big win in the Panther Relays at Pitt-Bradford where they combined for a final score of 234 points.

Having a big night for the men was junior captain Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry), who won the three events, for a total of 27 points.  Fairchild took the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:50.91, a full four seconds faster than second place Eric Hastings of Buffalo State.  Fairchild would go on to take first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.93) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.62).

For the women, it was Sara Breese (West Springfield/Northwestern) coming up with key points, as she won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.  Breese finished the 50 with a time of 26.37 seconds and the 100 in 58.25 seconds.  First year swimmer, Jenny LaFuria (North East/North East) also grabbed a first-place finish with her time of 1:17.71 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Next up for swimming and diving is an away meet at Bethany on Saturday, November 4.  The meet marks the first of a five-meet road trip, putting the men and women away until after semester break when they welcome Edinboro to the Junker Pool on January 13..
