01-28-02 Behrend Women Upend Frostburg State The Penn State Behrend women's swimming team defeated Frostburg State 106-94 on January 26, 2002 in the Junker Pool. This was the first home victory for the women's swimming team in their brief history. "It was a significant win considering we were already down points entering the meet to last year's AMCC Classic Champions." Having no divers for the women's team, the Behrend Lions had to overcome the thirty-two point differential to Frostburg. Leading the women's swimming events were sophomore Tara Braden (Erie/Fairview) who placed first in the 100 yard freestyle and 1000 yard breaststroke events. Freshman Christine Williams (Seltzer/Pottsville) also earned a title in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard backstroke. Adding to the team points were sophomore Hollie Stash (North Huntingdon/Norwin) and freshman Samantha Cibula (Bradford/Bradford) who were the top two finishers in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke events. Also, sophomore Amanda Brown (Spartansburg/Corry) placed first in the 100 yard freestyle and second in the 50 yard freestyle events. The Behrend Lions next meet is on January 30 at Washington & Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. The next home meet will take place on February 6 against Nazareth College in the Junker pool. |
