Five Behrend Swimmers Prepare for ECAC Open at Harvard

Five men from the Behrend swim team will make the three day trip to Harvard University on Thursday, February 16 for the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships. 32 teams will make the trip to Harvard's Blodgett Pool.

Qualifiers include Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry), Anthony Spoto (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm), Tom Weir (Rochester/Freedom), Jason Hall (Lower Burrell/Burrell), and Joe Reese (Boalsburg/State College). 

Fairchild qualified in four events, the 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.  He recently broke the school record for the 200 freestyle at the AMCC Championships, with a time of 1:47.47.  

Spoto will also be participating in four events: 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.  Spoto holds four Behrend records including the 100 freestyle which he broke last weekend. 

Weir will be in two events, the 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay.  Weir swam the backstroke in 55.36 seconds at the AMCCs, good enough for fourth place and to meet the ECAC qualifying mark of 56.03 seconds.

Hall qualified in the 50 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and the 200 medley relay.  Hall, Fairchild, Reese, and Spoto set the Behrend records for both the 200 and 400 medley relays last weekend with times of 1:38.79 and 3:38.45 respectively.

Reese has earned the right to compete in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.  Along with two relay records, Reese holds the Behrend 100 butterfly record with a time of 53.84 seconds.  The ECAC qualifying mark for the 100 butterfly is 54.52.

Results will be posted live throughout the competition on the ECAC website (www.ecac.org) and the Harvard website (www.gocrimson.com).
