Behrend Swimmers Conclude Swimming and Diving Season at ECACs

Five men represented the Penn State Behrend swimming and diving team at the ECAC Open Championships this past weekend, marking the end of the swimming and diving season.  The three day event was held at Harvard University.

Anthony Spoto (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm) and Jason Hall (Lower Burrell/Burrell) both saw action in multiple events at the Open.  Spoto swam the 100 yard freestyle in 48.92 seconds, and the 50 freestyle in 22.33 seconds.  Hall finished the 50 freestyle in 22.43 seconds and completed the 100 yard backstroke in 55.74, just behind teammate Tom Weir (Rochester/Freedome) who swam the event in 55.31 seconds.

Two medley relay teams made the ECAC qualifying times.  The 200 yard medley relay team consisted of Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry), Spoto, Hall, and Joe Reese (Boalsburg/State College) and finished twelfth.  The 400 yard medley relay team clocked in at thirteenth and comprised of Spoto, Fairchild, Weir, and Reese.

"It was a good experience for some of our young swimmers to get in the pool and face competition they do not see in our regular season," said assistant coach Joe Tristan.  "All five of our guys competed in multiple events and most of them should be back here again next season.
