Behrend Men Sweep AMCC All-Conference Awards

The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team dominated the first-ever AMCC All-Conference awards.  The men took Newcomer, Swimmer, Diver, and Coach of the Year awards, landed 21 all-conference spots in individual events, and another five in relay events.

AMCC Swimmer of the Year went to Dustin Fairchild (Corry/Corry).  Fairchild earned all-conference recognition in the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and as part of three relay squads.  Fairchild broke school records in the 200 free (1:47.47) and 500 free (4:52.84) this season.  Diver of the Year was given to A.J. Kondash (State College/State College).  Kondash was all-conference first-team in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving categories.  Kondash earned AMCC Diver of the Week honors an incredible six times over the course of the season.  Newcomer of the Year was Behrend's Tom Weir (Rochester/Freedom).  Weir got all-conference in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, he qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 100 backstroke and the 400 medley relay.  Coach of the Year was Jen Wallace, who led her young group of swimmers and divers to the first-ever AMCC Championships in dramatic fashion.

Other all-conference performers in individual events were, Anthony Spoto (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm), Joe Reese (Boalsburg/State College), Tim Porter (Pittsburgh/North Hills), Jason Bobsein (Sellersville/Pennridge), Jason Hall (Lower Burrell/Burrell, and Dan McAndrew (Franklin/Franklin).  Spoto was all-conference in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 breasstroke.  He swam the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the ECAC championships.  Reese earned recognition for his effort in the 100 and 200 butterfly events, he swam both races at the ECACs.  Porter got all-conference in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.  Bobsein swept the all-conference second-team diving awards.  Hall made all-conference second-team in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 backstroke.  He swam in the ECACs in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke events.  McAndrew was all-conference second-team in the 1650 freestyle distance event.

Five Behrend relay squads made the all-conference team, including the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that competed at Harvard in the ECAC Championships.  Both teams comprised of Hall, Fairchild, Reese, and Spoto.  Other relay teams making the grade were the 800 freestyle (Fairchild, Bobsein, Weir, Porter), 200 freestyle (Hall, Bobsein, Porter, Spoto), and 400 freestyle (Hall, Fairchild, Porter, Spoto).
