03-01-02 Two Swimmers Compete in ECAC Championships A pair of Penn State Behrend freshmen Casey Doody (Scarborough, ME/Cape Elizabeth) and Lucas Dushac (Indiana/Indiana), performed well at the Eastern College Athletic Championships held at the University of Pittsburgh. Doody and Dushac are the first Behrend Lions athletes to compete at this event. Both have excelled for the blue and white this year setting numerous personal bests and team and pool records. "Getting two men there this year, and getting our foot in the door will help us in the future," said head men's and women's swimming coach Josh Heynes. "We expect to get more men and women to this meet in the years to come. This was just a steeping stone to get us to the next level, NCAA Divison III Championships." Doody placed 15th in the 100 backstroke in 54:06, and set a new team record in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.70 while placing 16th. Dushac also placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.33, and 12th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.78. "Doody and Dushac's performance was well in the realm of expectations," said coach Josh Heynes. "Prior to the meet starting they were seated higher than 20th place in their respective events. However they over came this obstacle and placed in the top 16 in each of their events." |
