Penn State Behrend's Van Epps and Kovach Pick Up AMCC Honors

Penn State Behrend’s Katie Van Epps (Titusville/Titusville) was named the AMCC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Krystal Kovach (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) was named the AMCC Women’s Diver of the Week for the week of January 21.

Van Epps had an impressive week taking home three individual first places, as well as one relay win.  Van Epps won two close races Friday night against Chatham, with a victory in the 400 IM (5:17.42) and a win in the 200 butterfly (2:33.97). She was able to come back on Saturday and win the 100 butterfly (1:18.07) and the 200 team freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.82 which set a new team record.

Kovach also had an excellent weekend winning both the one and three meter boards (228.75 and 176.45) which qualified her for the ECAC Championships.  On Saturday, she was able to win both diving competitions against Penn State Altoona and Frostburg State.  Kovach also produced a NCAA Championships qualifying score in the one meter event, making her the first Behrend swimmer or diver ever to do so.

This was the first conference swimmer of the week honor for Van Epps this season and was the third diver of the week honor for Kovach this season.  The Behrend Lions will be back in the pool January 26 at Washington and Jefferson at 1:00 p.m.
