Behrend Women's Swimmers Make Big Splash on All-Conference Teams
The
Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team snagged numerous AMCC
honors as the 2008 all-conference teams were announced on February 26.
The Behrend Lions swimmers and divers recently captured their second straight AMCC
title with a dominating performance at the AMCC Championships.
Freshman sensation Krystal Kovach (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) was
selected as AMCC Women's Diver of the Year. She took home first-team
honors in both 1 meter and 3 meter diving. Kovach is tops in the
Behrend record book on all four diving records.
Grabbing
other top league honors were freshman Katie VanEpps
(Pleasantville/Titusville) who was selected as the AMCC Co-Newcomer of the
Year (along with Morgan Kinville from Pitt-Bradford), and head coach Jen
Wallace, who was tabbed as the league's coach of the year for the second
straight season.
VanEpps was named all-conference first team for each of the four relay
events (200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 400 medley) and selected as
second-team all-conference in the 200 IM, the 400 IM, and the 200 fly.
Sara
Breese (West Springfield/Northwestern) was also recognized for an
outstanding season. The sophomore was named first-team all-conference
in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 breast, as well as on all four relay teams.
Freshman Shannon Strong (Newfane, NY/Newfane) picked up first-team honors in
the 100 fly, as well as on all four relay teams. She was also a
second-team selection in the 50 free and 100 free.
Behrend sophomore Danielle Wilson (Pittsburgh/Plum) was a first-team
all-conference selection for all four relay teams, and a second-team choice
for the 200 free and 500 free. Freshman Danielle Palski
(Harleysville/Souderton) was also recognized as a second-team pick in the
1650 free.
Kovach, VanEpps, Breese, Strong, and Wilson have all qualified for the ECAC
Championships which will take place February 29-March 1 at the University of
Pittsburgh.
