Head Coach Jeff Barger

Jeff Barger is in his tenth year at the helm of the Behrend Lions tennis program.  After finishing runners-up in back-to-back years, coach Barger has his team focused on recapturing the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference crown that was theirs back in 2004.

Barger has been voted the AMCC Coach of the Year seven times and is the all-time leader in men's and women's coaching victories. He guided the team to an undefeated conference record three seasons ago en route to their first conference title.  He has also led the women's team to an unprecedented six AMCC titles in nine seasons, including the 2006 championship.

Last season he led the men's team to a 5-1 conference mark, tying Frostburg State for first place in the regular season. The men went on to finish third in the AMCC Tournament.  Barger looks to take his team to the next level this season, finishing on top the AMCC in 2008.  Last season, the men split their matches against Frostburg, losing 3-6 in the first match and triumphing in their second meeting 5-4.

Barger boasts an overall nine year record at Penn State Behrend of 195-136.  His women’s tennis winning percentage is impressive at 69.5% and ranks first in the Behrend record books.  Barger has taken the women to three consecutive undefeated seasons in the AMCC, going 18-0 during that stretch and winning three AMCC tournament championships.

Previously Barger was the girl's tennis coach at Ripley High School for four seasons, and he was a letterwinner in tennis for the Fredonia State Blue Devils.  He earned a degree in business from Fredonia State. He also serves Penn State Behrend as a lecturer of health and physical education.
