Women's Tennis Heads to AMCC Championships as Top Seed

The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team will head into this weekend’s Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships as the #1 seed, with a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play.  The conference championships will be held October 16 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, PA.

Behrend tennis has been dominating AMCC foes this season, with the closest match being a 6-3 victory over Penn State Altoona on September 25.  Three of the Behrend Lions are undefeated in AMCC singles action this season, as sophomore Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory), junior Jenna Yankowski (Bethel Park/Bethel Park), and sophomore Shelley Goodpastor (Sharon/Sharon) have a combined 18-0 record.

In addition to outstanding singles play, Behrend went undefeated in doubles for the entire season.  The conference championships open with doubles play, which could help Behrend get off to a fast start.

On October 13, Behrend faces Westminster in a tune-up match before the big AMCC weekend.  Coach Jeff Barger said, “Playing Westminster will help as everyone will get one last good match in before the weekend.  As far as the championships, Altoona will probably be our biggest challengers, but if we play well we should be in great shape.”

Behrend currently boasts a 12-3 overall record in addition to their undefeated AMCC mark.  This weekend the Behrend Lions will try to capture their second consecutive and sixth overall AMCC championship.
