Tennis Wins Sixth AMCC Women's Championship Title

The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team captured their second consecutive and sixth overall Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, PA.

Behrend posted a perfect 6-0 mark during the regular-season, entered the event as the number-one seed and favorite, and dominated at the championships. Behrend earned 16 points while Altoona had six points, Chatham three, and Frostburg zero.

"Our goal was to make all the finals which we did," said head coach Jeff Barger. "We played outstanding doubles which set  us up for the singles. All the ladies played hard and played well."                                                                             Shelley Goodpastor

Behrend Lions netters Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory), Mindy Calvert (Warren/Warren), Jenna Yankowski (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) and Shelley Goodpastor (Sharon/Sharon) all won singles titles, while Mudrey and Calvert teamed up to win a doubles championship as did Yankowski and Goodpastor and Amy Frizzell (Grove City/Grove City) and Susan Cooper (Pittsburgh/Mount Lebanon).

Behrend boasts a sharp 13-3 overall record in addition to their undefeated AMCC mark.  "Our success is attributed to the fact that we work hard, and that we have had some outstanding players and students," said Barger.
