Boyea Named AMCC Tennis Player of the Week (03/20/06)

Miles Boyea (St. Vincent, WI /Upper Canada) has been named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 20.  The sophomore won both of his conference matches at #1 singles and #1 doubles this week.

Boyea, paired with sophomore Todd Guarnieri (New Castle/Neshannock) defeated Pitt-Greensburg’s Josh Thorpe and Rob Pulcini 8-3 in doubles.  Boyea rolled in singles play 6-0, 6-0 over Pitt-Greensburg’s Thorpe.  Boyea and Guarnieri also edged Penn State Altoona’s Alex Chang and Bill Stocker with an 8-6 win.  Stocker, Penn State Altoona’s #1 singles player, did not faze Boyea as Boyea turned in an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory.  Boyea’s efforts assisted the Lions in an 8-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg and only a one point loss 4-5 to conference leader Penn State Altoona.

Coach Jeff Barger said, "Miles showed great improvement last week and is beginning to put his singles game together.  We look forward to Miles continuing to improve and becoming a top player in the conference."

The Behrend Lions are scheduled to host Seton Hill on March 25 at the Westwood Tennis Club at 11:00am.  The blue and white are currently third in the AMCC with a record of 1-1 in conference play.
