Behrend Men Split Two Matches Over the Weekend

Penn State Behrend men's tennis started in-conference play over the weekend when they matched up against Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, March 18 followed by a match with defending champion Penn State-Altoona on Sunday, March 19.

The men started off AMCC play on the right foot when they cruised past the Bobcats 8-1.  AMCC Player of the Week Miles Boyea (St. Vincent, WI/Upper Canada) led the attack, winning both his number-one singles and doubles matches in decisive fashion.  Boyea closed out Greensburg's Josh Thorpe 6-0, 6-0 in singles play, then teamed up with Todd Guarnieri (New Castle/Neshannock). The team took all three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches.

The blue and white went on to fall to Penn State-Altoona, 4-5 in a close battle that went down to the final singles match.  Boyea again starred for the blue and white, winning his singles top-seeded singles match, 6-3, 6-4 and pairing with Guarnieri to win doubles 8-6.  Behrend won the doubles portion two matches to one, however was only able to capture two of the six singles contests.

The men are in action again Saturday, March 25, when they welcome the Seton Hill Grifffins for a 11:00 a.m. match.
