Women's Tennis Enjoys Win at Behrend Invitational
Behrend's play was strong with four freshman players competing in their first-ever collegiate match. "It was a very good match for our first match of the season," said head coach Jeff Barger. In doubles play freshmen Erin Bliley (Erie/Mercyhurst) and Elise Jones (Pittsfield,MA/St. Joseph) won with a strong 8-2 finish. Senior Amy Brem (Kersey/St. Mary's) also partnered with Jones to win their match against Bethany 8-3. In singles action, eight behrend members went victorious in their matches. Among the competing Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory), Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown/Kutztown), Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst), Kelly Matalka (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley), Hillary Lasher (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern), and Elissa Stewart (Warren/Warren).
Defeating Bethany and Chatham, the blue
and white went on to face Geneva for tournament champion, where they
went on to win 3-2, improving their record to 4-0 on the season.
The women will next travel to Fredonia State to face the Blue Devils
