Men's Tennis Blanks Waynesburg 9-0 in First Home Match

The Penn State Behrend Lions captured a victory in their fist home match of the 2008 season when they took on the Waynesburg College on Saturday, February 16.  The men defeated the Yellowjackets 9-0 to move to 1-1 at the start of the season.

The victory can be attributed to a tremendous team effort.  Seniors Miles Boyea (St. Vincent, WI/Upper Canada) and Jim Palmer (Warner/Warner) teamed up in doubles play to win 8-3.  The freshmen team of Elliot Blackstone (Wexford/Pine-Richland) and Jon Henderson (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) were also victorious today, taking their match 8-0.  Each of these players went on to win their single matches as well.

Teammates Trevor Dougherty (Meadville/Meadville), Shane Moiser (Kersey/St. Marys), and Jason Grosch (Warren/Warren) also contributed to the blue and white win, defeating each of their opponents in singles play.

They men will enjoy a week off of play until their next match when they host Grove City College on Friday, February 29.  Matches are set to begin at 3:00 p.m.  The team will then travel to North Caroline over the spring break for a number of matches.
